Purified raw materials allow to adjust nearly all parameters inside the diet exactly and within low tolerances. Special diets are gently pelleted in 10 mm and can be supplied in the form of powder, too. Generally, these diets can be used unrestricted up to 3 months after production date in case of dry, dark and cool (< 7 °C) storage condition. The minimum order quantity for special diets is 10 Kg. This minimum batch size is based on technological requirements to achieve highest mixing homogeneity and accuracy. Normally, feeding is done ad libitum.
Special diets are formulated using purified-derived and chemically-defined ingredients. The reaction of test animals can be specifically be influenced by usage of special diets. Thus, ingredients and additives can be added in excessive of insufficient method to induce reproducible disease symptoms which are very similar to those of human beings.
Purified diets are available for most common disease models. Especially modified high-fat diets are used for inducing obesity, diabetes, atherosclerosis, metabolic syndrome, hypertension and lipemia. Special diets causing other medical conditions, e.g. fatty liver, cancer, caries and many others are available, too.
